Last weekend, Gridence demonstrated how local airspace monitoring can be deployed quickly and cost-effectively to support flight safety and operational activities at regional airports and aerodromes.
West Avia Airshow was originally scheduled for July but had to be postponed due to weather conditions. When the event took place in Seinäjoki last weekend, Gridence provided real-time electronic visibility of the surrounding airspace and demonstrated the solution at our stand.
We deployed a local airspace monitoring system and connected it to the Gridence cloud platform. The entire system was up and running in just 30 minutes.
It created a shared real-time situational picture of manned aircraft and drones operating around the event, allowing visitors to follow the traffic live at our stand.
We also provided electronic conspicuity devices on loan to pilots who wanted to test the technology in their own aircraft. This offered a practical opportunity to experience how electronic visibility can improve awareness of nearby traffic and help different airspace users become part of a shared situational picture.
The demonstration continued the work we carried out earlier at Kuhmo Fly-In. Both events showed how cost-effective digital airspace infrastructure can be introduced without extensive traditional surveillance systems.
The Gridence solution combines data from technologies such as ADS-B, ADS-L, FLARM and Remote ID with observations from other sensors. Our software aggregates and analyses this information, transforming individual observations into operationally relevant airspace intelligence.
Electronic visibility is only the first step. The real value comes from understanding what is happening in the airspace, how different events are connected and whether action may be required.
